Interstellar organic chemistry and other applications of gas phase ion-molecule chemistry

چکیده
Abst rm Over 60 molecules and ions, most of them organic, have been detected in interstellar space and most are thought to be formed by gas phase ion molecule reactions. The unique features of reactions of this type, which allow them to proceed readily under the extreme conditions of space and yet exhibit great selectivity and otherwise resemble reactions in solution, are discussed and illustrated.

Spatial distributions and interstellar reaction processes.
Methyl formate presents a challenge for the conventional chemical mechanisms assumed to guide interstellar organic chemistry. Previous studies of potential formation pathways for methyl formate in interstellar clouds ruled out gas-phase chemistry as a major production route, and more recent chemical kinetics models indicate that it may form efficiently from radical-radical chemistry on ice surf...
متن کاملA theoretical study of the conversion of gas phase methanediol to formaldehyde
Methanediol, or methylene glycol, is a product of the liquid phase reaction of water and formaldehyde and is a predicted interstellar grain surface species. Detection of this molecule in a hot core environment would advance the understanding of complex organic chemistry in the interstellar medium, but its laboratory spectroscopic characterization is a prerequisite for such observational searche...
متن کامل1,2,3-triazoles: gas phase properties.
1,2,3-Triazoles have come to the forefront as compounds of import in a vast number of applications. The fundamental properties of these species, however, remain largely unknown. Herein, the gas phase properties of 4-phenyl-1,2,3-triazole, benzotriazole, and a series of 1-phenylbenzotriazoles are described. Proton affinity and acidity values are computed and measured. Furthermore, ion-molecule r...

Gas-phase chemistry in the interstellar medium is driven by fast ion-molecule reactions. This, of course, demands a mechanism for ionization, and cosmic rays are the ideal candidate as they can operate throughout the majority of both diffuse and dense interstellar clouds. Aside from driving interstellar chemistry via ionization, cosmic rays also interact with the interstellar medium in ways tha...
متن کاملChemisorption of Pyrimidine Nucleotide Onto Exterior Surface of Pristine B12N12 Nanocluster: A Theoretical Study
In this research, the interaction of pyrimidine molecule with pristine B12N12 nanocluster is studied in different phases to understand the effect of environment on the electronic properties of the designated adsorption complexes. To this end, the pyrimidine adsorption over B12N12 in the gas phase and water medium is investigated using density functional theory (DFT) at the B97D/6-31+G(d,p) leve...
